Help the Homes
CRY FOR HELP FROM ‘THE HOMES’
The District has just received a cry for help from Royal Freemasons.
Monash University Accident Research Centre, with whom the Masonic Homes work in close relation, is involved in part of an international research study aimed at reducing motor accident related injuries and death and improving the quality of life of older drivers.
They are aiming to enlist 250 drivers aged, 75 and older, who will participate in the study.
We older Freemasons fit the cohort well and they are certainly optimistic of our longevity and rate our life-span well!
Results from this study will help, over time, to develop a system to identify older drivers who may be unsafe. On the other hand, the survey may prove us 75 year-olds are not the ‘problem group’.
Who are they looking for?
Individuals who:
- are aged 75 or older
- have a Victorian Drivers License
- are currently driving at least four times a week on average
- drive a vehicle that is 2002 or newer, and
- are willing to attend the Peter James Centre, near the corner of Springvale Rd. and Burwood Hwy in Burwood, for a short time three times a year for five years – the GAOTU so permitting.
If you or your family members or friends could participate in this study Pauline Bates, Manager of Residential Care at our Homes, would be most grateful.
