Monash Lodge Steering Committee
Why is Acacia a Masonic symbol?
In putting acacia at the head of the Master’s temporary grave, Freemasonry follows beliefs, which go back to the captivity of the Jews in Egypt.
Our last Task Force challenge was collecting at the 7/11 store franchise for the Children’s Hospital Good Friday appeal on 6th April!
With just over four weeks notification from the 7/11 franchise that the collection could proceed at their venues, it was quite an effort to not only assemble the collection kits at the Uncle Bob’s headquarters at Tullamarine, but to also arrange volunteers to collect at the 7/11 stores.
Brethren and Ladies,
In my role as Deputy District Coordinator I get to meet many Freemasons just going about their Masonic and Private business. These are everyday people like you and me just performing their daily routine. One such person I know proudly supports his Family, Lodge and his Community.
I am talking about Bro John Millar of The Peace and Loyalty Lodge at Ferntree Gully. Continue Reading →
John is relatively new to Freemasonry and was recently invested as a Steward of his Lodge.
Brethren, this is a “sort of” Task Force report, and also a District Panel Report!
Now I realise this might sound confusing, but first things first!
At our Panel Meeting on Friday 2nd. March our District Coordinator Lionel May advised that Grand Lodge had requested that Monash Gully Panel Members provide catering for the Freemasons Victoria Open Day on Monday,
12 March.
What is the meaning of the word Worshipful as applied to the Master of the Lodge?
Few Masonic matters are less understood by the non-Masonic public than this.
The word ‘worchippe’ or ‘worchip’ is old English, and means ‘greatly respected’. In the Wycliffe Bible ‘Honour thy father and thy mother appear as ‘Wychip thy fadir and thy modir’. In some of the old Constitutions of Masonry is the phrase, ‘Every Mason shall prefer his elders and put him to worship’. Worshipful, therefore, in modern Masonry, continues an ancient word meaning ‘greatly respected.
An email received from the Task Force Executive on 29 February, confirms that the 7/11 Stores have agreed to allow collections at their stores for this very worthwhile cause.
Looking at the list of available collection sites in the Monash District, there are 11 stores availa-ble. We have managed to collect at 6 of these stores in the past, and have raised $8,440:15 for this very worthwhile cause since 2007. There was no collection in 2011. Good Friday is only 5 weeks away!
